BLOWOUT

bike racing=blowout

Getting started...

So seems bike blogs generally require time, money and mad skillz... I've got time, and sometimes money, and I'm working on the skillz part...I started racing last fall for cu cycling and had a ton of fun. Collegiate racing was nice and chill and it was a good entry to the sport. Unfortunately I ended my collegiate season with a broken back, and didn't touch my bikes from October till May.

First Time Back On My Bike..

But now it's that time of year again and I'm back on my bike doing some racing...Right now, I'm racing cat 1 woman's dh. Come fall I'll be racing dh for good old cu cycling again.

Collegiate Racing

So far this season I've been trying real hard to hone in on those skills, but it is not really going so well. I started the racing season at Crested Butte for MSC #4 Wildflower rush. The course was super fun, nothing too technical yet still a little bit of everything. I finished that race with a nice 6th and had a really fun time at our beautiful camp site.

The next race was up in Snowmass where there was a downhill on both Saturday and Sunday. The Saturday course was pretty mellow and kinda boring. I ended up with a third on Saturday's racing, putting me up on my first ever podium. Sunday's course was a lot more fun. It was much more steep and technical and I was really enjoying all my practice runs... then come race run on the third turn on the very top before the stuff stuff begins, I got a flat. As I was walking my bike down, everyone watching kept telling me the other girl in my category who also flatted was running her bike, so why was I only walking? She deserved the win if she was willing to run down that entire course with her bike, and I wouldn't dare try to take that away from her so instead I took my time and enjoyed my nice long nature walk to the bottom.

Saturday Race Run

Next up came USA Cycling Nationals at Sol Vista... another course I was super stoked to ride, but of course my race day nerves got to me as always and I had a nice crash.. rolling a double... guess it's time to learn to jump those suckers. Despite my little spill I still got to end up with a 4th overall and got to podium at nationals, which was pretty fun. The camping at nationals, however, I was less than stoked on. We ended up camping on a ski run.. which means some extreme angles camping!!
